Among the components you are going to have to keep an eye on is your starter. At some point, your starter is going to start to fail. Fortunately, as with other components of a vehicle, the starter is going to have warning signs before it completely fails on you.

One of the warning signs of a failing starter is smoke. If you are seeing smoke when using the starter, then this is a sign that you are going to have to get it looked at. As a matter of fact, smoke is a major sign that you have to watch out for.

Another sign is freewheeling when it comes to your starter. Freewheeling is when you hear a whining noise with the starter but no engine crank. This means that the flywheel is not being engaged by the starter gear. In any case, your vehicle needs to be serviced promptly.
